What’s interesting to me is that mobile seems to be following a page from the same playbook: Facebook (Joe Hewitt), Tweetie-now-Twitter (Loren Brichter), Angry Birds (Mikael Hed and team), Instagram (Kevin and Mike), and Foursquare (Dennis and Naveen) were/are all driven by a strong sense of design, too.
Instagram appears to have done a better job of attaching a solution to a common problem (most photos aren’t attractive). Picplz feels super generic and I suspect they will end up serving a significantly smaller audience (it doesn’t help that they are clearly iterating much slower.)
The way I see it Picplz totally dropped the ball by entering a crowded market with very few unique features. I don’t buy they are serving different communities BY CHOICE.
