  • On Hacker News, meanwhile, Bao explains how he built the app, and asked the community what he should do now. Evidently, Bao also took to Quora, where he explained how the simple Web app went from a simple link on Facebook to a viral machine.

• Will 2011 See App Makers Thinking Android-First? One Developer Thinks It’s Possible

  • i) Revamp of the Android store: Initially, News was bundled into “news & weather” category, which was dominated by weather apps. Also, the leaderboard/featured was very hard to crack through. This has been improved, with new categories such as “News&Magazines” and much better discovery of apps, in general. Having a banner, more screenshots and getting more than 250 keywords to describe your app is huge. Still not perfect, but much better.
  • iii) Getting featured on the Market: Getting featured on the App Store gets you tons of downloads, easily 10x your normal traffic. I never thought Google’s blessings could do the same. Pulse is currently a featured app since last week, and the downloads every day are comparable to our best days on iOS.

    “我强烈感受到中国民营企业的巨大财富增长和对财富管理需求的增长，他们是一个学习型和成长型的群体，确实需要理财规划师，需要中立、客观、能从他们的角度做规划和筛选金融产品。”事后接受 《北方新报》采访时，她总结。

    成浦集团上市不成，汪静波被湘财证券挖去，2002年1月起担任湘财荷银基金管理有限公司的副主管。

  • 汪静波说，诺亚成功很大程度要归功于股东的选择，“我们选择的股东是非常好的，比如说何总，他非常重视团队培训，让我们不断去上课，公司收入500万，可能120万都会投在培训费用上。我们非常关注团队的成长，这是何总带来的价值观。”

  • 诺亚有金融系统的地图，从哪里走？收费比较低？但是操控方向盘的是客户，而不是诺亚。就像你上携程，你比价，或者去哪儿，完全是自己在比的，而不是谁在引导

    一位此前与汪静波共事的金融圈人士对理财周报记者说，也许是当年大熊市的烙印太深，让汪静波学会了专注。

    汪静波说，“我只用专业打动人，一根筋，一件事做到底。”长期以来，诺亚只做高净值客户，不走大众路线；只做沙龙推广，从不搞论坛；只做金融产品销售和服务，绝不做投资；只做个人，不做机构。

    My parents navigate the Internet by clicking the arrow next to the address bar, and clicking the webpage they want to use. The last time I tried converting them, they also used work-related webpages with ActiveX controls, which no sane browser would ever support. Tech is slow outside of the tech industry.

    My parents’ Chrome usage would be a play in three Acts:

    Act 1: Confusion. “Where did my Sites go? The ones that were on top. I used to click something to click the sites, but now that’s gone. There’s no arrow! I have to open History? I didn’t have to do that before. Where did my Homepage go? What’s a ‘tab’?”

    Act 2: Judgement. “I had this the way I like it before. I don’t think I can get used to using this. And I couldn’t use the Work system, so I have to keep switching between things.”

    Act 3: Trashbin. “That Google thing? I uninstalled that. We didn’t like it. And we couldn’t use it for Work.”

    As they say, the best user interface is the one you already know how to use.

    国内并不缺乏好的思想和高超的技术人员，但却极端缺乏自信。往往一个人或团队有好的想法之后并不是立即动手去实现，却去思考这样的模式能否吸引人气？能否盈利？而创新的激情往往就会在这些想法中慢慢被消磨。

    3、大环境所限制

    在国内的互联网环境下，大的公司经常会因为股东、投资人的限制而难以施展大的拳脚，作为投资人，当然是希望去做成熟并且有盈利前景的项目。

    同时，小公司的创新产品经常会被大公司收购，并最终失去原始的创新激情。这还算是好的，如果大公司迅速模仿一个类似的产品并且凭借其用户数量对小公司进行打压，这对于最初的创新是致命性的打击。

    在这样的环境下，谁还会去思考创新？

  • Eliot scholars went nuts. They scoured his prepublication manuscripts trying to figure out which of its five parts were written first, how they were arranged into a coherent whole, even what Eliot was reading while he wrote them. To help with the chronology they conducted an almost forensics-level analysis of his typewriters. They discovered — among many other ridiculous things — that one model he used produced letters 0.02mm wider than the other, a minute detail which went a long way toward dating his many drafts.

  • Damn, I can’t believe this may be happening, but given Eldar’s pedigree and former hits, Nokia Windows Phone doesn’t sound as ridiculous to me as it did just a few hours ago.

    If this is true, all the brave talk of Nokia’s being back with new Symbian and new Meego, all the proclamations about the confidence in their software strategy, all of that was just an empty boasting. Nokia is throwing in the towel and giving Microsoft the keys to it’s software kingdom. I still can’t wrap my head around this.
