• PatchMatch: A Randomized Correspondence Algorithm for Structural Image Editing

Left to right: (a) the original image; (b) a hole is marked (magenta) and we use line constraints (red/green/blue) to improve the continuity of the roofline; (c) the hole is filled in; (d) user-supplied line constraints for retargeting; (e) retargeting using constraints eliminates two columns automatically; and (f) user translates the roof upward using reshuffling.
  • We offer theoretical analysis
    of the convergence properties of the algorithm, as well as empirical
    and practical evidence for its high quality and performance. This
    one simple algorithm forms the basis for a variety of tools – image
    retargeting, completion and reshuffling – that can be used together
    in the context of a high-level image editing application. Finally, we
    propose additional intuitive constraints on the synthesis process that
    offer the user a level of control unavailable in previous methods.

  • Somewhat unrelated to this post, but I’m finding the debate over web vs. native mobile apps to be very interesting.

    I’m a huge proponent of web apps for desktop apps. Most software is simple enough to work well in a browser and you can’t beat being able to use the same app on any computer without ever installing or upgrading. This advantage seems to disappear on mobile phones though. I carry my phone everywhere I go, so portability isn’t really an issue. Most phone platforms provide an easy way to install and keep your apps up-to-date, so that concern fades away too. Most importantly though, I see native mobile apps having a much better user experience than web apps (regardless of whether or not the webapp was written for a mobile platform). On the desktop, I can keep a web app loaded and running all day. That seems a lot harder to do on a phone.

    Palm is unveiling their webapp based phone soon. Google says it wants to make more apps using HTML 5. It will be interesting to see how these strategies pan out.

  • 吴洪声认为这件故障是凑巧因素引起的偶然事件，但也是必然会发生的。“因为DNS作为一个最基础的服务，没未被多少人熟知，大家对它的关注可以说是基本没有的。”他指出，目前Web防范措施已经比较完善，但基于DNS的防范依然很弱，易被黑客利用攻击。

    　　吴洪声透露，国内网游私服每个月都要花费200-300万元攻击对手。一般做出一个G的攻击流量需要花费4-5万元。流量都是通过“肉鸡”(编者注：指被黑客侵入并可控制的电脑)打出来，24G的流量大概需要几百万到几千万台肉鸡。对私服业者来说，攻击防范薄弱的域名解析无疑是最有效的办法。

    Put it in a container that contains the pdf2swf swf file. Take
    a look at e.g. rfxview to see how that is done.

    Im still having trouble getting a search working. Im stuck on how to
    implement it. I want to be able to convert the pdf’s to as3 and search the
    swf. Do you have a example that i can see with this function? it would
    help me greatly. Also when i do a -T 9 and -t the pages do not stop. Any
    ideas? I ‘m really liking your product and have learn comand prompt today
    just to use pdf2swf I have been testing all the comands and have been
    using sc too. Yesterday I had no idea what this all meant now a light has
    sparked over my head I need to get this working for a major project
    that Im doing. we have over 2000 pdf’s and 30 % will not search in
    print2flash or flashpaper. Now my boss had said that they had looked into
    swftools awhile back and thought the other products were better. PLEASE
    help me prove them wrong I see great things in this method and would
    love to get 98.9% of the pdfs converted to swfs that are searchable and
    highlighted when searched. Thank you for your time.

  • Just use Flashpaper, which can convert every format to non-editible flash. It installs a printer, so to convert say a Word document, you just have to go to Word and print the document with the Flash Paper printer. It prints a non-editible swf file.
